Description

Gonzalez-Barcala et al. studied the impact of various factors on the quality of life (QOL) experienced by a patient with asthma. These can help to identify a patient who may require greater support and closer monitoring. The authors are from Clinic University Hospital in Santiago de Compostela, Spain.


 

Patient selection: adult with asthma

 

Risk factors for a worse quality of lfie:

(1) older age (>= 60 years)

(2) poor education (did not complete grade school)

(3) severe persistent asthma

(4) poor control of the asthma

(5) personal belief that adherence to medications is not important

(6) stressful event in the past 2 weeks

(7) current or former smoker

(8) recent hospitalization

 

Other factors that may contribute:

(1) body mass index >= 30 kg per square meter

(2) living alone

(3) not an active worker
