Carobbio et al identified simple risk factors associated with thrombosis in a patient with essential thrombocythemia. These can help identify a patient who may benefit from more aggressive management to prevent thrombosis. The authors are from Ospedali Riuniti di Bergamo and Universita degli Studi di Firenze in Italy.
Outcome: cumulative risk of thrombosis at 20 years from time of diagnosis
Parameters:
(1) risk group based on age and history of thrombosis
(2) baseline white blood cell count
