Description

Balekian and Gould identified critically-ill patients with end-stage liver disease (ESLD) who were likely to die in the hospital. These patients may benefit from more aggressive management or novel therapy. The authors are from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles and Kaiser Permanente Southern California.

where:

• The MELD score and mechanical ventilation would reflect 2 organ failures.
