Description

A Roth spot consists of a retinal hemorrhage with a whitish center.


 

Risk factors for formation of a Roth spot:

(1) microemboli (bacterial endocarditis, other)

(2) shaken baby syndrome or other head trauma

(3) radiation retinopathy

(4) anoxia

(5) carbon monoxide poisoning

(6) hypertensive retinopathy

(7) diabetic retinopathy

(8) elevated venous pressure

(9) idiopathic hemorrhagic retinopathy

(10) aneurysm of a small retinal artery

(11) myeloproliferative disorder

(12) anemia
