Home exercise equipment can be associated with traumatic injuries. The risk of injuries is increased if certain risk factors are present.


 

Risk factors for injuries associated with home exercise equipment:

(1) intoxication

(2) hand slipping

(3) foot slipping

(4) epilepsy or syncope

(5) lack of safety measures

(6) faulty assembly

(7) fooling around

(8) infant or child (risk is for the child)

(9) exhaustion and/or distraction

(10) error in use (using the equipment incorrectly)

(11) weight lifting alone

(12) medications

(13) inexperience

(14) impaired vision

 

Home exercise equipment most often associated with injuries:

(1) stationary bicycle

(2) treadmill

(3) jump rope
