Cytarabine can cause neurotoxicity, with the risk increased when certain risk factors are present.
Risk factors for neurotoxicity associated with cytarabine therapy:
(1) age > 50 years
(2) male gender
(3) high cytarabine dose
(4) renal dysfunction
(5) hepatic dysfunction
(6) pre-existing neurological dysfunction
The risk increases with the number of risk factors present.
