Description

Cerebellar hemorrhage may occur in the neonate and can have long-term adverse effects.

Risk factors for cerebellar hemorrhage:

(1) premature infant, especially one that has an extremely low birth weight (ELBW)

(2) emergency cesarean section or traumatic delivery

(3) presence of a patent ductus arteriosus

(4) acidosis as reflected by a low 5-day minimum pH (mean 7.11)

These risk factors are also risk factors for intraventricular hemorrhage and periventricular hemorrhage.
