A patient with epilepsy is at risk for thermal burns. Many of these occur in the home and most can be prevented.
Risk for epilepsy-related burns:
(1) frequent episodes with impaired consciousness
(2) failure to implement safety measures (like controlling water temperature in the hot water heater)
