Beavers are industrious creatures with very sharp teeth. Attacks on humans are rare but can be serious.

Risk factors for attack:
(1) trying to handle the beaver, especially if injured
(2) intoxication
(3) rabies
(4) encroachment on territory
(5) approaching young beavers
(6) pets (especially a dog) approaching the beaver
A bite on an extremity can be serious, especially if a large artery is severed.
A bite from a rabid beaver would carry a risk of rabies.
