Description

Atrial flutter is found more frequently in patients with certain risk factors, although it may rarely occur without apparent predisposing cause (idiopathic).


 

Risk factors for atrial flutter:

(1) gender

(2) age

(3) heart failure

(4) chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)

(5) diabetes mellitus

(6) other factors

Granada found this a weak predictor for men, while Vidaillet found it a predictor for women
