Description

Aquaplaning (hydroplaning) occurs when a car's tires lose grip on a highway caused by more water than the tires can handle. This can result in skidding, sliding and/or loss of control.


 

Risk factors for aquaplaning

(1) underinflated tires

(2) bald tires or tires with inadequate tread

(3) standing water on the roadway

(4) oil on the road surface

(5) smooth road surface

(6) driving too fast for conditions

(7) driving under cruise control

(8) hard braking
