Description

Paragonimiasis may be acquired by humans ingesting the intermediate metacercariae.


 

Primary sources:

(1) crabs

(2) crayfish

(3) freshwater shrimp

 

Preparation:

(1) raw

(2) partially cooked

(3) soaked in wine or soy sauce

(4) salads

(5) crab or shrimp sauce

(6) pickled

(7) crayfish curd

(8) jams

 

Less frequent sources:

(1) raw or rare meat from wild animals (boar, bear, etc)

(2) food prepared on contaminated surfaces or utensils

(3) folk medicines (prepared from crustaceans or rare crab juice)
