Description

A water heater can explode if too much pressure builds up. Excessive pressure can develop if certain risk factors are present.


 

Risk factors for a water heater explosion:

(1) substandard or defective heater

(2) improper installation by an untrained or unqualified installer

(3) failure to perform routine inspection and maintenance

(4) altered pressure relief or safety valve

(5) absence of proper safety devices and controls

(6) malfunction of a safety device or control

(7) improper adjustment of temperature and pressure controls

(8) corrosion

(9) excessive build-up of mineral deposits

(10) excessive water temperature
