Description

A ram (male sheep, Ovis aries) can be very dangerous. A large charging ram can have considerable kinetic energy.

Risk factors for being attacked by a ram:

(1) rut season

(2) entering the ram’s personal space (flight zone)

(3) history of aggressive behavior

Injuries can be caused by:

(1) charging head butt

(2) close quarters head butt

(3) hoofs (kicking, rearing with drop, jumping)

A ram without horns can be just as dangerous as a ram with horns.

Most injuries are blunt trauma. This can include vertebral fracture, visceral lacerations, chest trauma and head injury.
