Description

The Relationship and Sexuality Scale consists of 10 questions that can be used to evaluate the impact of a disease and its treatment on a woman's sexuality. It can be used to monitor the patient over time and to determine the effect of endocrine interventions. The authors are from Stockholm and Uppsala in Sweden.

NOTE: The original scale was developed for premenopausal women with breast cancer. I've modified the wording to make it more generalized.

The instrument consists of 10 questions, which are divided into 3 subscores:

(1) sexual function

(2) sexual frequency

(3) sexual fear

Each question is scored from 0 to 3 or 0 to 4 points.

subscore for sexual function =

= SUM(points for items 1, 2, 3, 7, 8)

subscore for sexual frequency =

= SUM(points for items 4, 9 and 10)

subscore for sexual fear =

= SUM(points for items 5 and 6)

Interpretation:

• minimum score for total scale and subscores: 0

• maximum score for sexual function: 16 (the text says 18)

• maximum score for sexual frequency: 12 (the text said 8)

• maximum score for sexual fear: 8

• maximum total score: 36

• The higher the score, the more dysfunction is present.
