Description

The amount of body hair covering a body region can be quantitated based on the physical properties and distribution of the hair.

Parameters:

(1) quality (thickness) of the hair

(2) density

(3) percent of region covered with hair

where:

• Hair density can be estimated or based on counting hairs using the Harvard rating scale: 1 - 10 hairs per square cm; 11 - 100 hairs per square cm; 101 - 200 hairs per square cm; > 200 hairs per square cm.

regional hair score =

= (quality) * (density) * (percentage)

Interpretation:

• minimum regional score: 0

• maximum regional score: 12

percent of maximal regional hair score =

= (regional score) / 12 * 100%
