Description

Shribman et al developed a simple clinical rule for identifying a patient with Parkinson’s disease (PD) who may benefit from a fracture risk assessment. The authors are from Royal London Hospital, West Middlesex University Hospital, Queen Mary University and UCL Institute of Neurology.


 

Patient selection: Parkinson’s disease (PD)

 

A patient should be undergo a fracture risk assessment if both of the following are present:

(1) history of falls

(2) one or more of the following:

(2a) duration of PD > 5 years

(2b) use of bilateral walking aids

(2c) history of a previous osteoporotic fracture
