Recurrent subperiosteal hematomas can be a serious problem for a patient with neurofibromatosis.
Patient selection: neurofibromatosis
Clinical features:
(1) recurrent episodes of subperiosteal hematoma, which may be triggered by minor trauma
(2) rapid new bone formation (ossification) with bone cysts
(3) hypertrophy of the affected area
(4) deformity and/or disability over time
In severe cases amputation may be necessary.
