Behaviors or actions to avoid during a legal deposition:

(1) being less than completely professional at all times

(2) failing to cooperate with co-defendants

Avoid the following when answering

Instead

Guessing at an answer.

Say "I don't know." or "I can't remember."

Simplifying medical language when talking to the plaintiff's attorney.

Use medical terms liberally.

Answering more than what has been asked.

Say as little as possible while responding exactly to the question.

Answering a compound question.

Ask for clarification, with one question asked at a time.

Answering a question posed as a double negative.

Avoid a simple "Yes" or "No". Either ask for clarification or reframe a response away from the double negative.

Skipping over laboratory results (or any other data).

Go through each result in detail.
