Description

Carlsson et al asked patients with complete dentures how they felt about their dentures. This can help identify a patient who may require an adjustment or change in the dentures. The authors are from the University of Umea in Sweden.

NOTE: The original survey classified each feature as good or poor. I have expanded the number of responses for each item.

Survey items:

(1) what other people think about the aesthetic appearance of the dentures

(2) what the patient thinks about the dentures

(3) frequency of pain or discomfort caused by the dentures

(4) functioning of the dentures

(5) retention of the upper and lower plates

total number of negative responses =

= SUM(negative points for all 5 questions)

total score =

= SUM(overall points for all 5 questions)

Interpretation:

• minimum number of negative responses: 0

• maximum number of negative responses: 5

• If the negative remarks were given for 2 or more of these questions then the adaptation to the dentures was considered poor.

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score: 15

• The higher the overall the score the better the adaptation to the dentures.
