Some men taking sildenafil may develop psychiatric problems while taking the drug.
Clinical features:
(1) onset or worsening of a psychiatric problem (see below)
(2) improvement on discontinuation of sildenafil
(3) no other explanation more plausible
Psychiatric effects may include:
(1) aggressive behavior
(2) confusion
(3) delusions, paranoia or hallucinations
(4) mania
The patient with a new onset of symptoms would have to be followed to determine if the drug is just bringing out an evolving problem due to some other cause.
