Description

Disposable gloves are an essential part of a healthcare providers personal protective equipment (PPE). The gloves need to be used and care for appropriately to be effective in protecting both provider and patient.

Guidelines:

(1) The provider should wear a glove that fits properly (not too large or small, permits dexterity) and is free of holes and tears.

(2) The glove should be replaced immediately if it becomes torn, punctured or grossly contaminated.

(3) The wearer should wash his/er hands with soap and water after using gloves, especially if the glove has been torn/punctured and contaminated.

(4) Disposable gloves should not be washed, disinfected or otherwise processed for reuse.

(5) The gloves should be non-latex or powder-free latex gloves. If the patient or provider has a history of latex allergy, then hypoallergenic gloves should be used.
