Description

Seeger et al identified factors associated with a poor outcome for a patient with spontaneous circulation following cardiopulmonary resuscitation. The authors are from Universitatsklinikum Frankfurt am Main in Germany.

Patient selection: spontaneous circulation after cardiopulmonary arrest

Poor outcome: death in the 30 days after the arrest or severe hypoxic cerebral damage

Predictors associated with a poor prognosis:

(1) blood lactate on admission

(2) arterial blood pH

(3) age in years

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score: 3

• A score of 3 was 100% sensitive but 50% specific for a poor outcome.
