Description

Mjahed et al identified prognostic factors for a pregnant woman admitted to a surgical intensive care unit. These can help to identify an obstetrical patient who may benefit from more aggressive management. The authors are from Ibn Rochd University Hospital in Casablanca, Morocco.

Factors associated with worse survival:

(1) number of organ failures (high if 2 or more)

(2) hyperbilirubinemia (total bilirubin > 12 mg/L (1.2 mg/dL)

(3) coagulopathy with prolonged prothrombin time (measured in percent of normal)
