Prognostic Factors of Maugars et al for a Patient with Dermatomyositis or Polymyositis

 

Prognostic factors associated with death for patients with either dermatomyositis or polymyositis:

(1) older age at onset (> 45 years)

(2) dysphonia

(3) pulmonary interstitial fibrosis

(4) asthenia-anorexia

(5) myalgia NOT the presenting symptom

(6) absence of dysphagia

 

Risk factor for dermatomyositis:

(1) older age at onset (> 45 years)

(2) cancer

(3) pulmonary interstitial fibrosis

(4) asthenia-anorexia

 

Risk factor for polymyositis

(1) older age at onset (> 45 years)

(2) failure to improve muscle strength following therapy for 1 month (lack of weakness reversibility)

(3) myalgia NOT the presenting symptom
