Description

Leirisalo-Repo identified a number of prognostic factors for a patient with reactive arthritis or a spondyloarthropathy.


Adverse prognostic factors:

(1) hip pain (coxitis)

(2) decreased spinal mobility (cervical, thoracic, lumbar)

(3) heel pain (associated with the Achilles tendon)

(4) inflammatory bowel disease (or chronic bowel lesions)

(5) marked elevation in the erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR)

(6) family history of reactive arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis or spondyloarthropathy

(7) presence of HLA-B27

 

Other adverse prognostic factors:

(1) male gender

(2) anterior uveitis

(3) paravertebral ossification or apophyseal joint involvement

(4) juvenile onset (<= 16 years of age)

(5) persistent or recurrent urogenital infection (uroarthritis)

(6) high C-reactive protein
