Description

Diamandidou et al identified factors associated with a worse survival for a patient with Mycosis Fungoides or Sezary Syndrome (MF/SS) who develops a large cell transformation. This can identify a patient who may benefit from more aggressive management. The authors are from the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.

Parameters:

(1) time between diagnosis of MF/SS and the time for the transformation

(2) stage at presentation

• Sezary syndrome by definition is at least Stage III.

Interpretation:

• minimum number of risk factors: 0

• maximum number of risk factors: 2

• The presence of 1 or 2 prognostic factors was associated with a worse prognosis and warrants more aggressive management.
