Arias et al correlated left atrial volume determined by echocardiography to evaluate patients with moderate to severe organic mitral regurgitation. The authors are from Hospital Italiano de Buenos Aires in Argentina.


 

Patient selection: asymptomatic moderate to severe organic mitral regurgitation

 

Endpoint: dyspnea and/or systolic dysfunction

 

Parameters:

(1) left atrial volume index (LAVI) at baseline in mL per square meter BSA

(2) change in left atrial volume (:LAV) during followup (last measurement before onset of the endpoint minus the baseline value)
