The pressure-adjusted heart rate (PAR) is a measure of cardiovascular function.
Parameters:
(1) heart rate in beats per minute
(2) central venous pressure (right atrial pressure) in mm Hg (CVP)
(3) mean arterial pressure in mm Hg (MAP)
mean arterial pressure =
= ((systolic blood pressure) + (2*(diastolic blood pressure))) / 3
PAR =
= (heart rate) * (CVP) / (MAP)
Interpretation:
• The normal PAR is less than 10 beats per minute. However, a person in shock could have value less than 3.
