where:

• A negative value for pain improvement indicates worsening pain.

= SUM(points for both parameters)

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score: 2

• A score of 0 was referred to as a "nonresponder".

• A score of 1 was referred to as a "state responder" or "improvement responder".

• A score of 2 was referred to as a "double responder" and was considered a good pain response.

• A person tends to show an improvement in work attendance comparable to the pain response.
