Tellier et al identified a number of factors associated with poor prognosis in a patient with the CHARGE syndrome. The authors are from multiple hospitals in France.
Patient selection: CHARGE syndrome
Risk factors for poor survival:
(1) male gender
(2) presence of a tracheo-esophageal fistula
(3) presence of a midline CNS malformation
(4) bilateral choanal atresia
Midline CNS malformations include:
(1) agenesis of the corpus callosum
(2) arhinencephaly
(3) septal agenesis
(4) meningoencephalocele
(5) partial agenesis of the vermis
