Description

Simonoff et al identified a number of factors that are predictive of antisocial personality in an adult. The development of an antisocial personality may develop in stages, and it may be possible to reduce antisocial tendencies by interrupting these stages. The authors are from Guy’s, King’s and St Thomas’ Medical Schools, the Institute of Psychiatry London, London Metropolitan University, Sanbury Centre for Mental Health, the University of Manchester.


 

Predictors of antisocial personality:

(1) evidence of low IQ during early childhood

(2) hyperactivity in early childhood

(3) conduct disorder during childhood

(4) problems reading during childhood

(5) delinquent peer group during adolescence

(6) violent crime when less than 17 years of age

(7) any crime at less than 17 years of age

(8) dropping out of high school

(9) violent crime when 17 to 21 years of age

(10) any crime from 17 to 21 years of age
