The authors are from Reina Margherita Hospital (Torino), Alessandro Manzoni Hospital (Lecco) and Ospedale degli Infermi (Rimini) in Italy.

Endpoints: creatinine doubling and need for dialysis

Risk factors for disease progression:

(1) female gender

(2) adult age

(3) level of proteinuria (increase in odds ratio of 1.8 for each increase in 1 g/d for adults)

Proteinuria

Child

Adult

minimal

<= 10 mg/kg/d

<= 1 g/d

moderate

10.1 to 50 mg/kg/d
