Predictive Score of Hagino et al for Mobility in an Older Adult Following Hip Fracture
Purpose: To determine if an elderly patient with a femoral neck or trochanteric fracture will be ambulating at hospital discharge using the score of Hagino et al.
Hagino et al developed a simple score for predicting ambulation at hospital discharge in an older adult who have been admitted with a hip fracture. The authors are from Kofu National Hospital and University of Yamanashi in Japan
Patient selection: femoral neck or trochanteric fracture in adults >= 60 years (mean 81.5)
Parameters:
(1) dementia
(2) chest X-ray findings
(3) hemoglobin and gender (anemia)

= SUM(points for all 3 parameters)
Interpretation:
• minimum score: 0
• maximum score: 3
• The higher the score the less likely that the patient will be ambulating on hospital discharge.
