Description

The thickness of the plantar fascia is a measure of tissue glycation. It correlates with a number of microvascular complications seen in patients with Type 1 diabetes. The authors are from Children’s Hospital at Westmead in New South Wales, University of Sydney and the University of Western Sydney.

• AER = urine albumin excretion rate, elevated if > 5 µg/min

• SRPD = small resting pupil diameter (< 5.3 mm)

• PNA = peripheral nerve abnormality

• CANA = cardiac autonomic nerve abnormality

• HA1c = hemoglobin A1c
