Description

Phantom Tooth Pain (PTP) can be a challenge to diagnose and to treat. It shares features with other phantom pain syndromes.


 

Clinical features:

(1) history of a preceding event (see below)

(2) persistent pain and/or paresthesia in teeth and/or oral structures

(3) exclusion of alternative explanations

 

Preceding events:

(1) pulp extirpation

(2) dental extraction

(3) dental trauma

(4) maxillary antrum surgery

(5) dental nerve block (rare)
