Description

Mato et al developed the Penn Predictive Score of Tumor Lysis Syndrome (PPS-TLS) for patients with acute myelogenous leukemia (AML). This can help identify patients at risk for tumor lysis prior to induction therapy. The authors are from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.

Patient selection: acute myelogenous leukemia

Parameters:

(1) preinduction serum LDH

(2) preinduction serum uric acid

(3) gender

Parameter

Finding

Points

serum LDH

< 1.19 * (upper limit of normal)

0

1.19 to 3.91 times ULN

1

>= 3.92 * ULN

2

serum uric acid

< 0.42 * (upper limit of normal)

0

0.42 to 0.739 times ULN

3

>= 0.74 * ULN

male

total score =

= SUM(points for all 3 parameters)

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score: 10

• The higher the score the greater the risk of the tumor lysis syndrome.
