Friction edema of the penis is a benign condition that can cause swelling of the penis, much to the alarm of the patient. It is associated with damage to lymphatic vessels, resulting in fluid accumulation
Features of penis friction edema:
(1) local or total penile swelling from edema
(2) variable congestion of lymphatic vessels
(3) history of friction to the penis, often during sexual intercourse or masturbation
(4) exclusion of other causes and conditions (sexually transmitted infection, contact allergy, chemical burn, etc)
(5) response to temporary abstinence from sexual intercourse
