Description

The Penetrating Trauma Index (PTI) and composite Prognostic Score (PS) can be used to predict survival in trauma patients with penetrating trauma. The authors are from New York Medical Collage and the Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center in the Bronx.

Parameters:

(1) Penetrating Thoracic Trauma Index (PTTI)

(2) Penetrating Abdominal Trauma Index (PATI)

(3) Physiologic Index (PI)

Penetrating Trauma Index = PTI =

= (PTTI) + (PATI)

composite Prognostic Score = PS =

= (PTI) + (PI) =

= (PTTI) + (PATI) + (PI)

Interpretation:

• minimum PTI: 0

• maximum PTI: 290

• minimum PS: 5

• maximum PS: 310

• The higher the indices the worse the prognosis.
