General comorbid conditions:
(1) obesity
(2) diet conducive to gout
(3) excessive alcohol use
(4) Type 2 diabetes mellitus
(5) hypertension
(6) hyperlipidemia
where:
• The metabolic syndrome may reflect most of these risk factors.
Conditions associated with elevated serum urate levels:
(1) medications causing elevated serum uric acid levels
(2) lead intoxication
(3) inborn errors of purne metabolism
(4) psoriasis
(5) myeloproliferative or lymphoproliferative disorder
(6) chronic kidney disease
Conditions that may be a complication of gout:
(1) history of uric acid urolithiasis
