Description

The Parsonnet score is used to estimate the probability of mortality in patients undergoing cardiac surgery.

Parameters:

(1) gender

(2) age

(3) morbid obesity

(4) diabetes mellitus

(5) hypertension

(6) left ventricular ejection fraction

(7) reoperation or not

(8) preoperative intra-aortic balloon pump

(9) left ventricular aneurysm

(10) emergency surgery

(11) dialysis

(12) catastrophic states

(13) other conditions ("rare circumstances")

(14) mitral valve surgery

(15) aortic valve surgery

(16) CABG at time of valve replacement

predicted probability of operative mortality  =

= MIN(100,SUM (points for all of the parameters))

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score: 100

• The higher the score the higher the perioperative mortality.
