Description

Eaton and Littler described outcomes following surgical reconstruction of the thumb carpometacarpal joint. The authors are from Roosevelt Hospital in New York City.


 

Patient selection: painful, unstable thumb metacarpal (CMC) joints

(1) pain

(2) grip strength as percent of normal (often that shown in the opposite hand, if normal)

(3) further deterioration in the articular surfaces

(4) symptoms compared to preoperative
