Description

Khera et al listed nonmalignant late effects following hematopoietic cell transplant (HCT). These can result in significant disability for the patient. The authors are from Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, Washington.

avascular necrosis

joint replacement

osteoporosis

thyroid disease

diabetes mellitus

adrenal insufficiency

cerebrovascular disease

coronary artery disease

deep vein thrombosis (not intravascular catheter associated in study)

obstructive or restrictive lung disease

dialysis (renal insufficiency)

organ transplantation

suicide or suicide attempt

iron overload

 

Others that could be added:

(1) anxiety and/or depression

(2) infection

(3) nutritional problems

 

Specifically not included in the study: chronic graft-versus-host disease (GVHD)
