Description

Blaivas and Groutz developed a nomogram for outlet obstruction in women based on urodynamic testing. This can help to differentiate between obstructed and nonobstructed women and to stratify obstructed patients. The authors are from Weill Medical College of Cornell University in New York.

Parameters:

(1) maximum detrussor pressure during voiding ( pdet.max ) in cm H2O

(2) maximum flow rate in free uroflow (free Qmax) in mL per second, over range 0 to 50 mL/s

pdet.max

Degree of Obstruction

less than or equal to (free Qmax in mL/sec) + 7

none

greater than (free Qmax in mL/sec) + 7

mild

57.01 to 107 cm H2O

moderate

> 107 cm H2O

severe

where:

• The line separating no from mild obstruction goes through (Qmax, pressure) points (0,7) and (50,57). The slope is 1 and the intercept is +7.
