A fly larva may rarely reach the urinary bladder, ureter or renal pelvis. These cases have all been cases of accidental myiasis.
Clinical signs and symptoms:
(1) dysuria
(2) lumbar pain
Laboratory findings:
(1) hypereosinophilia
(2) microhematuria
(3) albuminuria
(4) pyuria
Complications:
(1) secondary bacterial urinary tract infection
(2) urinary tract obstruction
Diagnosis may be made:
(1) after the larva is expelled in the urine
(2) on imaging studies
(3) on ureteroscopy
