Description

Hernandez et al developed a model for predicting mortality for a renal transplant recipient. This can help to identify a patient who may benefit from a more aggressive management. The authors are from Hospital Universitario de Canarias and Hospital Ramon y Cajal in Spain.

Parameters:

(1) age of the patient in years

(2) key comorbid condtions

(2a) pretransplant cardiovascular disease (ischemic heart disease, stroke, peripheral arterial disease)

(2b) impaired renal function (serum creatinine > 2.5 mg/dL) at hospital discharge

(3) other comorbid conditions

(3a) left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH)

(3b) diabetes

(3c) vascular calcifications

(3d) time on dialysis > 48 months

(3e) acute tubular necrosis (ATN)
