Some serious injuries on the battlefield may benefit from the use of hyperbaric oxygen therapy.


 

Military conditions that may benefit from hyperbaric oxygen therapy:

(1) decompression sickness in a diver, submariner or aviator

(2) hemorrhagic shock

(3) crush injury

(4) reimplantation surgery

(5) air embolism

(6) frostbite or other cold-induced injury

(7) significant thermal or chemical burn

(8) severe head trauma with cerebral edema

(9) acute spinal cord injury

(10) vascular injuries with ischemia

(11) prolonged placement of a tourniquet
