The Michelin Tire (or Tyre) Syndrome is a rare genodermatosis with circumferential skin folds in an infant, resulting in an appearance resembling the Michelin Man.
Features:
(1) multiple, symmetric, circumferential skin folds that are present at birth
(2) variable presence of other anomalies
(2) exclusion of alternative diagnoses (Cushing’s disease, etc)
A biopsy of the lesion shows excessive adipose tissue in the dermis and subcutaneum and variable fibrosis. Imaging studies would be a less invasive.
The usual course is for the folds to disappear over time.
