Description

Kartagener Syndrome (primary ciliary dyskinesia syndrome) may be associated with male infertility.


 

Patient selection: infertile male

 

Clinical features:

(1) oligo- or azoospermia

(2) immotile spermatozoa with abnormal anoxemal structures

(3) autosomal recessive inheritance

(4) situs inversus viscerum

(5) recurrent sinusitis often with nasal polypsos and/or chronic otitis

(6) recurrent respiratory infections including bronchitis, potentially progressing to bronchiectasis

(7) exclusion of cystic fibrosis and Young's syndrome (see above)
