Description

Pulmonary hypoplasia is one of the most common abnormalities seen in perinatal pathology, typically due to a disorder outside of the respiratory tract.

Pulmonary hypoplasia is indicated if:

weeks of gestation

lung to bodyweight ratio

< 28 weeks

< 0.015

>= 28 weeks

< 0.012

Limitations:

• The ratio can be misleading in the presence of pneumonia or significant post-natal survival.
