Pulmonary hypoplasia is one of the most common abnormalities seen in perinatal pathology, typically due to a disorder outside of the respiratory tract.
Pulmonary hypoplasia is indicated if:
weeks of gestation
lung to bodyweight ratio
< 28 weeks
< 0.015
>= 28 weeks
< 0.012
Limitations:
• The ratio can be misleading in the presence of pneumonia or significant post-natal survival.
